Reflecting on the AM YTT Experience
Why did you choose Authentic Movements for your YTT?
I chose Authentic Movement for my teacher trainings because I was truly inspired by the ways Steph and Erin moved, practiced, and taught. I had followed them on instagram for a while, and eventually took a few of their classes on alo moves, where I fell in love with their teaching and approach to yoga. Due to my day job as an attorney, I was unable to join authentic movements for trainings in Costa Rica, however when they moved their trainings online, I jumped at the opportunity to take a 200 hour training with them. As soon as they announced the 300 hour, I signed up for that one as well, and I could not be more grateful for AM and these two trainings!!! I came to the 200 hour with no knowledge of how to sequence, and left with my mind absolutely expanded, and so many ways to logically and creatively sequence a class.
How did the online training platform work for you?
I LOVED IT!!!! I loved that I could work at my own pace for the 200 hour, but still create a community within AM. I loved that I received so much personalized feedback, that helped me SO much, I couldn’t actually believe how much time AM took to provide personalized feedback videos. I loved that I could work on it when I wanted to, and that I could revisit things that didn’t click at that moment.
How has your teaching changed since completing the AM YTT?
I can’t even describe how much my teaching has changed since completing my 200 hour with AM. I went from randomly sequencing on what I thought I should be doing, encouraging people into postures that were not necessarily right for everyone’s bodies, and not really knowing how to cue for sensation or for feeling, to understanding all of these concepts. The breakdown of sequencing and cueing was one of my biggest takeaways from this training, and for that I am so grateful. Learning how to logically neutralize and counter after a flow was also such a great exploration throughout this training. Lastly, making class more accessible was a huge breakthrough for me.
How have you engaged with the AM community of alums and students during and after the training?
YES!!!!! THE AM COMMUNITY IS THE BEST!!!! I have met so many incredible people from around the world due to this training, it is so cool!!!! I am so excited to one day meet all of the AM community and alums!!! A way that we have all been able to connect virtually is through the various platforms AM provides, we have a facebook group that is a lot of fun as well as through instagram.
What was your favorite part of the course content?
It’s hard to pick just one favorite part of the course content, so to name a few, my favorites were the lectures on anatomy, the lectures on sequencing, the funky flows & restorative flows. All were so thoughtfully created, the whole course itself was put together in such a logical and practical way that helped all of the concepts click. |
