AM V200 - July 2023

Kernville, CA| USA 🌎

I just finished my first 200 HR YTT! I started practicing yoga in 2018 during a challenging time in my life. Movement and breathwork in my personal practice brought me a sense of peace amidst the chaos. As a full-time public school music teacher, I started incorporating simple yoga and breathwork into my teaching as I worked with marching band students. I saw the positive effects yoga had on my life, and the way it enriched the learning of my music students, and wanted to learn more. This training has given me a renewed sense of joy when it comes to teaching, and I am excited to use all that I have learned in every aspect of my life.

Reflecting on the AM YTT Experience

Why did you choose Authentic Movements for your YTT?
Β  I found Erin Kelly on instagram when I first started practicing yoga, and was entranced by how strong and graceful her practice was! From there, I learned about Authentic Movements. As I started to realize the positive effects yoga was having on my life, I wanted to learn more and share that with others. I wasn’t able to travel and attend any of the in-person trainings, but when I saw the online option, I was so excited! I wanted to learn more from these wonderful and genuine humans!
How did the online training platform work for you?
Β  While I love traveling, I don’t often have the opportunity to leave home for weeks at a time – so this online training platform made attending a YTT possible for me. I loved having the option to rewind and revisit classes from earlier in the course. I had so many wonderful (but unexpected) life events happen while I had access to the online training, and so it was a blessing to be able to move through the course at the pace that suited where I was at each point in my life.
How has your teaching changed since completing the AM YTT?
Β  I feel empowered and refreshed. I have a passion for teaching beginners, and it was incredible to see how such experienced yoga teachers took the time and care to break everything down to its most simplest form to ensure that EVERY student has every available opportunity to be successful. I was already simplifying and scaffolding from basic to complex skills in my own personal practice and teaching, but this encouraged me to continue to do so.
How have you engaged with the AM community of alums and students during and after the training?
Β  I am more of an introvert, and sadly didn’t take advantage of having access to the community while I was in the process of completing the training. After seeing how supportive and encouraging the community has been on the facebook page and during the live check ins throughout this entire training, it has encouraged me to be brave and reach out to others more often.
What was your favorite part of the course content?
Β  The scaffolding throughout the course was perfection. Each individual chapter progressed from simple to complex, with related themes interwoven throughout. On grander scale, the learning arc from Chapter 1-25 was incredible! I have never felt like I fit into the typical “super bendy” yogi type, but still felt supported as I progressed through each chapter and subchapter. I was given tools along the way that I found helpful and revisited and reused frequently. The attention to detail was beautiful – what an amazing and well-planned course!
