AM V300 - MARCH 2023

Hailey, ID | USA 🌎

Gabby started her yoga practice at 14 when she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. She quickly discovered yoga was a great way to connect with her body and relieve herself from her chronic pain. While attending CU Boulder for her BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Gabby worked at CorePower Yoga as a cleaner. Before her college graduation, Gabby completed her first 200-hour YTT in Hot and Hot Power Fusion and her 50-hour extensions course. She very quickly jumped into teaching and completed several more teacher trainings. Gabby has a 250-hour certification for Hot and Hot Power Fusion (through CorePower Yoga), a 250-hour certification in Power Vinyasa (through CorePower Yoga), a 50-hour certification in Yin Yoga (through Heidi Beachley), a 50-hour certification in Yoga Sculpt (through CorePower Yoga), and now her 300-hour certification (through Authentic Movements). Gabby has assisted in teacher trainings with CorePower Yoga and facilitated retreats with her local community in Idaho. Currently, she is the co-owner of Pure Body Bliss Studios in Hailey, Idaho, where she teaches yoga, pilates, and fitness to private clients and group classes.

Reflecting on the AM YTT Experience

Why did you choose Authentic Movements for your YTT?
I had followed Stevi and Authentic Movements on Instagram for years before the pandemic. I have always admired the creative approach to yoga and the focus on movement rather than a specific way to do things. Once lockdown hit, I had more time on my hands than ever. I was up early one morning and saw an Ad for the V300 training one morning, and without giving it a second thought, I signed up for it. Best decision I ever made.
How did the online training platform work for you?
It was challenging. I am not the best selfmotivator… I am very good at making “excuses” for why I can’t work on something. It took work to avoid the tendency to save it for another day with the virtual/on-demand component of this training. I needed to be more motivated to connect with fellow trainees in the virtual setting. One of the reasons I love being a teacher is the human connection. Although I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and the knowledge I gained, I will probably stick to in-person trainings. That all being said, this training was better than I could have imagined.
How has your teaching changed since completing the AM YTT?
I have started to play with ways to make yoga more playful and a practice to cultivate strength with functional flexibility. CorePower Yoga originally trained me, so my teaching style before this training was still their style. This training has allowed me to teach my style while using all the fantastic things I have learned in all of my trainings. I am less focused on getting everyone to find the desired shape and more on giving everyone a moment of “wow, I just did that, and I didn’t think I could.” I have done my job if I can cultivate a sense of wonder for our abilities.
How have you engaged with the AM community of alums and students during and after the training?
I hate to say but not much at all. I have communicated with the teaching leads and Cait about specific questions I have had, but seeing as I am not a big social media user, it has been tricky to connect or find ways to connect. I plan to come to an in-person training in the future to get that connection I missed from taking this training online.
What was your favorite part of the course content?
I hate having to narrow it down to one thing! I truly loved every single bit of this training. There was not a single piece of content that was unnecessary. I particularly loved the emphasis on building strength in your practice through crosstraining in multiple movement modalities. This training reminded me that living in our bodies is a gift daily and that having an able body is another incredible gift that is not guaranteed. The course intention of “making the process the pose” created a container for me to be just as excited about the small victories as I was about the larger ones. I fell in love with being a beginner, which I hope to continue to bring forward in my practice and with my students. Practice makes more practice, and we get to return to it each day and be excited about what each day holds. What a gift. Thank you, AM, for that beautiful reminder.
