AM V200 -NOV 2021

Famagusta, Cyprus 🌎

Hi, I’m Jackie. I found Yoga at a really difficult time in my life, and have used the practice to learn about body awareness, mental check ins, breathing techniques, and confidence, among many other things. I enjoy creating unique sequences which I hope empower all to explore their very own movement style. I began practicing Yoga at home, and a home style practice is still very important to me. While we are here in Cyprus (due to move to the UK in 2022), this is a huge asset for me, as there aren’t many studios to practice in. I also find it a strength for my community, whom are not very familiar with Yoga in general. This is my first YTT, though I plan to do many more workshops and trainings in the future.

Reflecting on the AM YTT Experience

Why did you choose Authentic Movements for your YTT?
I chose AM because I’d followed Steph, Erin and Bianca on social media for years, and felt their honest, informed and genuine energy come through the interwebs! Their knowledge of body mechanics combined with a respect and reverence for the practice were ideal ingredients for a comprehensive training which I could feel confident enough to teach with.
How did the online training platform work for you?
I enjoyed the training, and feel that we probably profited hours wise from this training being online, as we were given so much information and guidance via videos. I did miss the community in person, though I loved writing on the FB page when I needed help, encouragement, or a rant! 🙂 Sometimes I also felt that I didn’t ask as many questions as I would in person, as well. Overall, I think it’s an epic training expertly delivered.
How has your teaching changed since completing the AM YTT?
This is my first YTT, but in practice, sharing, or moving with friends before, I feel I was more rigid with ideals about postures and less informed about habits, natural inclinations and different body types making different shapes. I now feel much more informed about body biomechanics, the idea that there isn’t THE way, there’s A way. I also feel I know more about general movement patterns in the body and how to empower people to use their strength to support themselves.
How have you engaged with the AM community of alums and students during and after the training?
I’ve been using the FB page, and a private Whatsapp group to engage with other students. This has been really great for my mental health, encouragement and general sense of community.
What was your favorite part of the course content?
I loved the vinyasa and restorative Yoga. I felt sometimes when I was tired the relief of just being the student! 🙂 They were also so much fun, creative, and informative.
