AM V200 - June 2021
Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA π
I have been interested in movement since a very young age. I loved ballet and point as a kid, I dabbled in gymnastics, I was a cheerleader for 4 years in high school and then took some modern dance classes afterwards. Movement with music is such a release for me and I’ve always gravitated towards it. It wasn’t until 2017 that I’d give yoga a more serious try. I had gone to classes, but I lacked the knowledge behind this beautiful practice and once I started, I needed to know more. From 2017 to 2020, I had gone to multiple Wanderlust’s held in Chicago and Minneapolis. I had done as many 108’s as I could attend, and I even learned from Steph and Erin when they did a guest class at Urban Om in Downtown Milwaukee. I started to pair up with my Aunt Linda, who also teaches yoga. She teaches yoga at the studio in Waukesha that I now teach at, and she is the reason I was able to teach yoga on Paddle Boards this summer on Pewaukee Lake with Koha Yoga. Learning from Linda, and Whakapaingia, who is an Acro Yoga practitioner and the owner of Koha Yoga, while simultaneously getting my 200hr YTT Certificate through AM was one of the best things that could have happened to me π
Reflecting on the AM YTT Experience
| Why did you choose Authentic Movements for your YTT? | |
| Β | I chose Authentic Movements for my YTT because it was Steph and Erin who initially sparked my interest in what yoga could be for me. I would watch their videos in awe and think, “I could do that, if only I had someone to teach me!”. I took a class they hosted at a studio in Milwaukee and they taught me my first arm balance. I was at a low point in my life and that boosted my confidence more than anything and was a very pivotal point in my yoga practice. I continued to follow them and in 2020, I had written a plan that I would do a YTT in the next 5 years. I’m not joking when I say that maybe a week later, I saw the ad that Authentic Movements was hosting a virtual YTT for a price that made me tear up. It was a no brainer that this was a sign that Authentic Movements was for me. |
| How did the online training platform work for you? | |
| Β | I LOVED IT. Not only did I learn from the best, but I grew to trust myself more. It was up to ME to set a timeframe of when I wanted to complete this training and I had to hold myself accountable. The feedback I got was so helpful and I use it all the time in my classes. Recording myself for assignments and listening back was also such an eye opener to my style and my speaking voice. The live trainings were also nerve racking in the best sense and so beneficial. |
| How has your teaching changed since completing the AM YTT? | |
| Β | I listen to myself as the words come out and I am so much more mindful of what I am saying. I know how to cue efficiently and I understand WHY I am cueing the things I am. |
| How have you engaged with the AM community of alums and students during and after the training? | |
| Β | I love to stay connected on Instagram and Facebook. I connected with a few people right at the beginning and I still reach out to them to pick their brains on anything yoga related. |
| What was your favorite part of the course content? | |
| Β | How do I pick one?! I loved the live teachings. Going through a very real teaching scenario and getting real time feedback was so helpful. I loved hearing all the different styles of teaching that the other students provided on the meets as well. And the fact that I can revisit any lecture for the next year is amazing. |
